Young law student Jim Wayburn makes common cause with defendant Ross Kemper who stole jewels and forfeited a large bond from the company of Jim's employer Roxy Morgan, an old friend of Barnaby's. But when Kemper cheats, Jim kills him and tries to sell the jewels.
